Micro-needling (FAQ)

Microneedling for Hair Growth:
How It Works Scalp microneedling uses ultra-fine needles to create tiny, controlled channels in the skin. These micro-channels stimulate the scalp’s natural repair process, which can support healthier hair growth by:
• Encouraging collagen formation around hair follicles
• Increasing circulation to the scalp
• Awakening dormant follicle stem cells
• Enhancing penetration of topical treatments such as growth serums or minoxidil
Research indicates that microneedling may improve hair thickness and overall density, particularly when used alongside therapies like PRP or medical-grade topical solutions.
How Often Should the Scalp Be Microneedled?
Shallow Needle Depth (0.25–0.5 mm)Recommended frequency: Every 1–2 weeks
This depth is ideal for maintenance and topical absorption rather than deep collagen induction.
Benefits include:
• Improved uptake of hair-growth products
• Gentle stimulation of the scalp
• Supporting results between in-clinic treatments
This approach is generally suitable for beginners and individuals with sensitive scalps.
What Determines the Right Microneedling Schedule?
There is no one-size-fits-all plan.
Your ideal treatment frequency depends on several factors, including:
• Degree of hair thinning or loss
• Needle length being used
• How quickly your scalp heals
• Individual sensitivity or inflammation
• Use of combination therapies such as PRP or minoxidil
• Age and skin response

Warning Signs You May Be Over-Treating:
If you experience any of the following, your scalp may need more recovery time:
• Redness that lasts longer than two days
• Persistent burning, itching, or tenderness
• Excessive flaking or peeling
• Increased shedding
Microneedling is most effective when the scalp is fully healed between sessions.
When Can You Expect Results?
Hair regrowth takes time.
With consistent treatment, most people notice changesalong this general timeline:
• 4–6 weeks: Reduced hair shedding
• 8–12 weeks: Early signs of regrowth
• 4–6 months: Improved thickness and coverage
• 6–12 months: Optimal results with ongoing care
Consistency and patience are key to long-term improvement.
What are the Safety & Care Guidelines?
Before Treatment:
• Start with a clean scalp
• Avoid oils or styling products
• Limit sun exposure prior to treatment After Treatment
• Do not apply minoxidil for at least 24 hours
• Avoid heavy sweating for 24 hours
• Delay hair colouring for 7 days
• Use soothing serums and apply sunscreen if exposed
• After 24 hours use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water to avoid irritation
When Microneedling Is Not Recommended:
Avoid or postpone scalp microneedling if you have:
• Active infections or open wounds on the scalp
• Flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema
• Severe dandruff or inflammation
• A history of keloid scarring
• Bleeding or clotting disorders
• A recent hair transplant (professional clearance required)
For deeper microneedling treatments, a professional assessment is always the safest starting point.
